I have been capturing images since 1960, teaching myself the photo effects of camera settings and building a darkroom at age 10. In high school I turned pro, shooting my first wedding and selling my first photo — a 1968 presidential campaign shot of Nelson Rockefeller that everyone in the press pool missed — to a daily newspaper and a national wire service.
For the next forty years I was technically competent and occasionally creative. I owned a typesetting and printing company and when requested shot photos for clients to use in their literature. On occasion I also taught basic and intermediate photography.
And then came the birth of digital photography in the early 2000s. It was wondrous and represented a seismic shift in the world of photography. Capturing images digitally and processing them in the digital darkroom allowed for more creativity than ever before. This came naturally to me, as I had been using Photoshop professionally since 1990. I regularly attend workshops and go on photo safaris. I have gradually developed a unique style using bright, saturated colors with strong contrast and special effects. On photo safaris I frequently serve as a second instructor. For over a decade I regularly shot Broadway and off-Broadway shows, related events, and promotional set-ups.
While I still shoot landscapes and wildlife, I am presently focused on special camera techniques, abstracts, and infrared photography, trying to find ways to create new images and unique images.
I am a long-time member of Nikonians, one of the largest photography communities on the web, where I serve as a moderator for a number of post processing and advanced Nikon camera model forums. I occasionally teach intermediate or advanced camera technique and all levels of post processing. I’m also a member of the famed Alexandria Art League, which is one of the largest multi-media art centers in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Finally, my work has been juried in both solo and group shows.
My photo business has been designated as a “Trusted Art Seller” with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
